About

China Lake-Ridgecrest branch has actively participated in the life of Ridgecrest and China Lake from the earliest days for the community. At one time it was one of the few women’s organizations in the valley. The branch sponsored many candidate’s nights, scholarships, and interest groups such as bridge, gourmet dining, and reading groups. It founded the Desert Counseling Clinic and China Lake Nursery School. The branch originally started in Trona in 1958. In 2016-17, we currently have a total of 23 members.  Our local population is a highly educated one thanks to the US Navy Base, Cerro Coso Community College, Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. We look forward to welcoming new members

Our focus in the past several years has been to have good programs of interest to the membership, timely topics and community issues. We have also focused on providing scholarships and sending local girls to the Tech Trek  program (aauw-ca.org/what-is-tech-trek).

AAUW is composed of three corporations:

The Association—with more than 100,000 members, 1,300 branches, and 550 college/university institution partners nationwide—advocates education and equity. Since its founding in 1881, members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day—educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, and diversity initiatives. AAUW’s work extends globally through its international connections and membership in the International Federation of University Women.

The AAUW Educational Foundation is the world’s largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women. Each year the Foundation provides about $4 million in fellowships, grants, and awards for outstanding women around the globe and for community action projects. The Foundation also funds pioneering research on women, girls, and education; international symposia; and forums.

The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund is the nation’s largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. The Legal Advocacy Fund provides funds and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.
